I have only discovered lately that “Norwegian Wood” is turning into a movie to be released this New Year’s Eve. The original novel, as I shall put it, has always been the best description of spiritual distances among individuals – and the best description of how people are striving to reduce that distance. I feel as if we always have some of the novel’s main characters around us, and that every intimate relationship has to be filled with a little regret. The movie, directed by Anh Hung Tran, will have Matsuyama Kenichi playing the lead.
