We sacrifice nature for progress, a better life, and our materialistic needs. Today, age changes, as well as the climate and environment. They influence our lives, or even determine the survival of mankind.
We have to make a revolution like using clean energy, namely, solar energy. Being environmentally friendly, without affecting the nature, can we still maintain the same quality of life? This is the new epoch.
Green travels
The world’s first manned and solar-powered plane Solar Impulse HB-SIA successfully took its maiden flight on April 7, 2010. The plane climbed to an altitude of 4,000 feet and stayed aloft for a total of 87 minutes. Though its 63 metres wingspan is as wide as that of a Boeing 747, the plane weighs only around 1.7 tons. It was equipped with 12,000 solar panels on its wings collecting energy from the sun, allowing it to fly at night.
The success of the maiden flight brought about a greater sense of serenity to move forward to the next phase. Grander ambition lies ahead for 2012 with a larger and more efficient plane that will circumnavigate the Earth over the course of four to six days. Aircrafts pumps out more than 600 million tons of carbon dioxide every year. That is almost as much carbon dioxide as the African continent annually expels. This is why a solar-powered plane is born to put an end on this number.
A new living
Sunshine gives us joy on beaches and vitality to all creatures. It can also transform into the cleanest energy, offering us hope in the future.
These majestic and impressive buildings show the care in our environment. Using fewer fossil fuels effectively reduces the emission of carbon dioxide, hence contributing to a better ecological environment every day.
A fresh journey
A solar car would stop global warming and reduce the reliance on petroleum. Most importantly, it would help to improve the urban environment. While the solar car is still in a conceptual phrase, car manufacturers are continuously developing and making improvements on its efficiency. Technology keeps advancing. Honda’s concept car EV-N saves solar energy by its solar roof panel, giving power to the batteries by pollution-free solar energy. Toyota is also considering applying solar power technology for the Prius series. What if there is less exhaust fumes? What if the sky comes blue then ever? In the future, they are no longer “what-ifs”. Take a breath, and you will see the beauty of being environmentally friendly. |
