Utilising innovative light-weight construction and improved driving technology, the new Porsche Cayenne has been hailed as the king of SUVs that offers advanced efficiency and high performance.
A new king has been found in the land of powerful SUVs. The new generation of Cayenne models from Porsche, featuring Cayenne, Cayenne S, Cayenne S Hybrid and Cayenne Turbo, have been developed according to the marque’s principle of “Porsche Intelligent Performance”: more power on less fuel, greater efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.
The sleek contours of the new Cayenne models exude energetic dynamics whilst the wheelbase that is 40mm longer than previous models offers a more spacious interior with unparalleled comfort and elegance. Benefitted by its light-weight construction, the enlarged body leads to a reduction in fuel consumption.
The Porsche has reduced the weight on the Cayenne S by up to 180 kilograms which enhances its driving performance. Equipped with a 4.8-litre V8 power-unit, the high-torque Cayenne S was shown to display a significant decrease in fuel consumption, down by 23 percent to 10.5 L/100km. Meanwhile the engine output has also increased to 400 bhp versus the former 385 bhp, with a higher top speed of 258 km/h and an acceleration rate of 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
The Cayenne S Hybrid is undoubtedly the most striking car among the new models. A sophisticated full parallel drive system matches the 333bhp three-litre supercharged V6 to a 47 bhp (34kW) synchronous electric motor to produce a combined output of 380 bhp, propelling the Cayenne S Hybrid from standstill to 100km/h in an impressive 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 242 km/h.
Drive is transmitted through an eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission featuring Auto Start/Stop. A powerful ‘Hybrid Manager’ computer coordinates both petrol and electric motors, allowing each to run independently to suit driving conditions. At speeds of up to 130km/h the Hybrid Manager can shut down the petrol engine and allow the car to glide almost silently along. Regenerative braking converts the energy used when braking into charge for the nickel-metal hydride battery; the disc brake system only comes into play under severe braking. Combining outstanding performance with environmental-friendly features, Cayenne S Hybrid is unquestionably the king of SUVs.
In addition, the all-new Cayenne Turbo, which is the top model among the series, is equipped with a 4.8-litre V8 biturbo engine, delivering a maximum output of 500bhp to offer an exceptional top speed of 278 km/h and the capacity to accelerate from a standing start to 100km/h in a breathtaking 4.7 seconds. Alongside this impressive performance profile, it consumes fuel at a rate of 11.5 L/100 km, and emits only 270 g of CO2 per kilometre.
In conclusion, the new generation of Porsche Cayenne brings the very latest in SUV design and technology to offer even more driving pleasure both on-road and off-road, combined with even greater in-town driving qualities, enhanced comfort and supreme elegance.
