Divana, a renowned Spa brand, has been established in Thailand for a decade that Thai-lovers in the territory should be familiar with. The brand officially land Hong Kong in February this year and launch its first store in Ma Sha Street, Sheung Wan, aiming at providing customers with comprehensive quality Spa products in addition to attentive service with highest standard. The Hong Kong agent of the brand Freddy Chiu said, “We hope to bring warmth to our customers. You can freely have a try of different products here, and our staff will dedicatedly introduce the products and demonstrate them for you. We hope that our customers can truly ‘feel’ how great the products are, but not just passively listening to our staff. We are going to bring the original concept of Divana to Hong Kong.”

Freddy assisted in the his family’s business of watches in the past, followed by his experience of turning loss into gain in a tobacco company, also owned by his family. Why did he choose to get into the beauty industry, an industry that he hasn’t possessed any knowledge of it? He answered, “I once bumped into the boss of Divana and told him I would like to act as the agent of their brand. I am eventually appointed as the agent in Hong Kong after two days of negotiation. Our cooperation is entirely based on mutual trust. This mutual trust, together with their warm personality, becomes a great support for us.

What could be more challenging than introducing a new brand to the market? Detailed strategic plans are definitely needed. Freddy responded, “Our brand is quite popular in Thailand and some other countries so it has successfully attracted some supporters already. Divana has set up counters as selling points in department stores in Japan with a purpose of drawing customers” attention and hence a better understanding of the brand. In contrast, we will first launch a small-scale shop in Hong Kong as the rent here is too high. The establishment of a large-scale store will undoubtedly lead to a huge pressure in operation. On the other hand, having a try by customers themselves, but not passively imagining the use of the products solely from salesmen’s presentation, is a unique process of “experience” that we always emphasise. Divana has their own research centre and their products are all made of natural ingredients, providing customers with an experience of rejuvenation and relaxation. We plan to set up counters in shopping malls, and open new stores in hectic districts such as Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui in the near future.”

Formerly worked as a designer, Freddy was involved in various projects on graphic design. Creativity, often found in design, can lead to a business success. “It is indeed a crucial building block for your career. Design brings new ideas and strategies about brand promotion to me, which enables me to offer attentive services and surprises to our customers. In the future, we expect to co-operate with hotels, introducing the unique experience of Divana to a broader scope of customers.”

There is a saying that goes “Keeping is harder than winning”. Determination and endurance is the key of a successful career. Freddy plays boxing for several years, which has a great impact on his working attitude. “A huge amount of energy is needed during a boxing practice. The greater your determination, the longer you can stand. The same principle applies for work,” Freddy concluded.
